Buganda Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has urged Baganda to embrace hard work, education and improved living standards, saying poverty, ignorance and disease continue to fuel dependency and begging in society.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on the people of Buganda to actively fight poverty, lack of education and disease, warning that the challenges continue to hold many communities back from meaningful development.

Mayiga’s message was delivered by the Second Deputy Katikkiro and Treasurer of Buganda Kingdom, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, during the official opening and dedication of the new headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Entebbe.

In his message, Mayiga said God created human beings not only to worship Him but also to work hard, improve their livelihoods and enjoy the world He created.

He praised the Adventist Church for constructing a modern and high-quality place of worship, saying the development should inspire communities to uphold excellence in their own work and projects.

“God created us to worship Him, love Him, and enjoy the world He created for us. We pray that He blesses this church and enables us to work harder so that we can fully benefit from the world He created for us,” the message read.

Mayiga further urged the people of Buganda to raise standards in their daily lives and work in order to overcome poverty, ignorance, disease, laziness and other conditions that contribute to dependency and begging.

The Katikkiro also commended members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Entebbe for their sacrifice and commitment towards constructing the new temple, describing service to God as a reflection of genuine faith and understanding.

“I was very pleased to hear that the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Entebbe had built a new temple for worshipping the Creator. Serving God is a sign of a person who truly understands Him, even without speaking much about it. I congratulate everyone who contributed to this important work,” he said.

The Archbishop of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Uganda, Samuel Kajoba, who led the dedication ceremony, applauded local church leader Peter Nsereko Male for spearheading fundraising efforts that enabled the construction of the church building.

Kajoba prayed for God’s blessings upon him and praised the dedication shown throughout the project.

During the ceremony, Kajoba also encouraged married couples to strengthen and cleanse their homes beginning with their hearts, saying strong family values can inspire communities to return to God and achieve their aspirations.

The new church headquarters has been named the “Seventh Day Adventist Church Entebbe Central District Headquarters.”

Several dignitaries attended the function, including Milly Babirye Babalanda, Member of Parliament-elect for Entebbe Municipality Steven Shyaka Gashaija, Buganda Kingdom officials and hundreds of Christian faithful.
